Rear main seal keeps leaking

So I finally get everything in the truck crank it up and everything seems perfect.... Until I discover the rear main seal has mysteriously poped out. I plugged a crank case vent by mistake. Moving along I installed the new one dry torqued etc the lot. Everything I perfect. I waited a day before putting everything back just I case. Crank it up again and it still leaks. Ill crack the transmission off just a bit so I can get my borescope in there but I'm pretty sure that its leaking again. Any ideas? Perhapse I should switch brands felpro to mahle.

Check your pcv valve too. The oem rear main seal is a top quality seal.

I checked that and it looks like it is just a fancy name for a one way valve. Mine was working fine on the 6.1 intake.

When you had the trans off to change the seal did it look wet anywhere above the seal or just the seal area?

Those seals are not known to leak if installed dry. You didn’t roll the seal on install possibly? There should have been a white plastic center to it that’s for pushing the seal over the crank lip
Redtruck-VA and ric3xrt like this.

So I took the trans off again and the seal looked fine bone dry in fact. So I sprayed eveything down with simple green, the purple hevy duty degreaser so in the morning I can run the truck again amd see where this oil is actually coming from.

Roumd two fight!

Thank you all for any advice especially you charged for your advice and tuning expertise.

One thing I hate most is oil leaks I want to here you have it fixed. Let’s gooe it’s not a galley plug or something.

When I found oil leaking out of the trans brace I thought my rear main was leaking. No big deal I was getting ready to install a new converter anyway. While I was waiting for the stall to arrive, I did some checking for the leak. Found out it was the front crank seal. It was riding the oil pan lip back to the trans brace. So it could be coming from the front if your seeing it drip out of that little hole in the trans. brace. It took several times checking to find this out. Good Luck!!!
