Properly setting E-fan controller

Any tips or procedures on setting the e-fan controller to the right temp range? My controller doesn’t have any markings on the dial, just a min and max range, I think somewhere between 150-270, I’ll have to double check the instructions. So it’s just a guessing game as far as what exact degree it’s set at. I have a 183° thermostat, and the probe is located in the thermostat housing neck. If I don’t have it set correctly the fan will either run constantly or come on too late. Any advice?

Monitor the engine temp with a scanner and adjust the Efan setting to cut-in 5° warmer than the thermostat rating. This will keep your fan off if the vehicle is moving at a reasonable speed. When the engine reaches 188°, slowly turn the dial until the fan kicks in.

I do mine differently. Turn the the setting high until the fan is off. Run the engine until it reaches 200. Back the adjustment off untill the fan comes on. Let the fan run until the engine temp is 190 and then set the low setting to turn fan off. This will turn the fan on when temp hit 200 and then turn it off at 190. At cruise your temp is around 193 and the fan is off. A manual fan on switch is good to have so in town if you want you can turn on the fan and it won't be cycling on and off in traffic.

Mine only has a built in 10 degree shut off, no adjustment on that. So I can only set the turn on temp

Then i would set it 200-205 to come on. Let it cycle a couple times to get exactly what you want.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to bring my efan down to Keith's so we don't need to reinstall the clutch fan with the engine install.
