Just for the sake of conversation. Has anyone modified an aluminum manifold? I keep thinking using an 5.7 aluminum manifold from a car and blanking off the front and moving the TB inlet to the side. Since they are dry manifolds and a lot of the dynamics of a wet manifold don't apply it remains a large plenum chamber, does it really matter where the inlet is located? Give me your thoughts.

Do you mean the aluminum 6.1L intake manifold? The LX 5.7L is plastic, just like ours. By putting the intake on the side, you'd run into serious leanning issues on the cylinders on the same side as the throttle body since the bulk of the air will be pushed into the far side banks and ends.
The #1 cylinder already is the first to lean out on the 6.1L manifold and it's designed to be run in a longitudinal direction as the 'hoops' of the manifold are shaped to direct this air into the runners. I could see your idea working with a boosted application, but not a N/A one.

Just my thought on it.

Shows what I know, I thought the 5.7 car manifold was aluminum, I haven't seen one first hand. But from the pictures it looked to me it was just a plenum chamber. Being a dry manifold I would think a lot of the directional velocities would be lost and come down to the runners just sucking air from the plenum. Appreciate the input.

Hey 69rrbruce, did you notice any performance difference HP/TQ between the Ram truck and the car intake manifold? And what all had to be done to do the swap? More pics please.

Thanks Stu.

I did the manifold switch on the engine before the 3.9 to 5.7 swap in my Dakota, so I have no idea what effect it had on performance.
To install it I had to fab a bracket to move the alternator & grind off the housing at the AC bracket for TB clearance. Then I fabbed an AC delete assembly from a spare tensioner pulley.

Here are a couple pics, not very clear what was done though, I'll have to look to see if I have any more detailed pics.

Bruce,
That is a good looking swap. I'd be willing to install a car manifold just on appearance alone. Can you tell us what you have used to tune your hemi? Well done.

Edit: Read your thread, I had no idea there were so many swaps going on. Great read. And again well done.
