I enjoyed the HotRod article. I love seeing GenIII HEMI's being built for an N/A platform and making big power. These types of builds to me are more realistic for readers to attain when letting the wrenches fly. Nothing exotic, no sheetmetal intake or fabricated parts. Just off the shelf parts and a custom ground camshaft going for broke at 800+ horsepower.
I love that it was done with Apache heads and not Thitek 800 is not that hard with the Thitek's . I want to do a Edelbrock headed Max effort next, I did 426 based off of Hughes
740hp build we hit 770 with the same cam specs as the Hughes build.
there are few things I would of done deferentially, but I do like that I'm not the only one running solid shimmed lifters and stock rocker arms. good thing about this build is he's making all that HP at 7k, My 392 is making that @ 8k, 7k is easier on street build than 8k
with those cam specs you could run that on 93 with 12 to 1 , just need to keep timing under 10 degrees. the few times I've ran the Purple 05GTx on the street I had to knock timing way back and ran 93+ some Toluene/Acetone mix.
side note , I have .020 over stock stroke 5.7 build I'm starting on next week , customer wants to squeeze the crap out of it. eddy heads lots of compression should be a buzz bomb type.
I was a little disappointed that Edelbrock tech support couldn't tell us the wall thickness of the push rod hole. I have one set of 6.1 heads with tubes and am not impressed with the overall port. I have 3/8" push rods and I'll call the clearance good, but would have liked a touch more. After I run the new engine I'll know if it was a good call or not.
I may be switching over to Holley instead of HP myself as I do have a sleeved hole but the rest of the motor is ok. Thinking turn down the one hole and let the rest rip. I do have a backup engine now anyway lol. Oops let the cat out early I guess. First gotta see what I can make my current motor do prey she holds true
Hell yeah! It just a circle game. You blow something, you fix it and start again. I have all my part numbers for holly if you need them to help you out some and just see what u need and don’t need from what all I got.
The Holley system seems to be allot easier to tune. To get the most hp/tq out of your engine setup. It's the way to go.
