long spark plug socket

I'm getting ready for my first spark plug change. I bought a 5 inch long 5/8 spark plug socket (JC Whitney) that I hope will help me. It is as long as the standard socket with a 2 inch extension on it. Here's a pic of the socket.

I bought one of the Champion taper gap spark plug gauges and gapped my NGK 5306's to .045 at the coffee table, then put them back in the boxes to protect them until I do the actual plug change. The taper gauge makes it really easy.

What got me was laying on the crossmember infront of the radiator, I was sore as as a risen on my ribs and chest. I even had a old quilt folded twice draped over it.

I have always used a feeler gauges or round tapered gap setter, but was wondering about the gap pliers? has anyone ever used these? you can get a set for $20.00 at Summit, but i have never used a gap plier before and was just courious as to their worth.
