I have owned a 2003 Hemi QC since 2004, and this truck never had a problem until one dark day in January of this year. I had noticed that the oil pressure gauge would fluctuate (and activate the Check Gauges light) whenever the accelerator was punched or whenever I had to brake hard. The local dealer suggested a sending unit, and that "fix" seemed to remedy the problem. Long story short, I lost oil pressure at 80 mph and my '03 Hemi is toast.

Now -
Shops around here won't touch this thing as far as a rebuild goes, yet I'm not sure how to know if it can can be rebuilt. So whats my best bet? Crate motors on eBay are ~$3500, short blocks from other sources are $2800, and local labor estimates are looking like $2100 for a pull/install. I could use some guidance here.

Either buy a low mileage motor from a salvage yard, or buy a new short block from dealer. Short block should cost 16-18 hundred.

Why not just rebuild it yourself? I'm curious as to why the shops won't touch it for the rebuild. If you tear it down, have a shop do the machine work, then you can pick & choose the parts you want to put back in it.

Probably the same reason I don't do brain surgery.

Ok here goes. I bought an 03 QC from a member about a month ago, some of you may know the truck as Betsy. As of sunday night the engine is seized up and my best guess is a spun main bearing so I am also looking at replace or rebuild options. My mechanic has said there aren't any in this area from salvage yards and the mopar long block is 4 grand. At this point I'm leaning on rebuilding it and doing the assembly myself. Are there any recomendations for things like cam, lifter, rocker combos or retailers that deal with packages to increase performance mildly. Not looking to create a monster, just up the fun a little. Any help would be great.
