trying to interface that pcm with the body control systems is a way bigger job than I want to handle. I'll build what's already there. that thing is really only an advantage on a true vintage type platform.

For someone starting a serious build the number is excellent... but for folks already deep into their build it another engine package cost wise..

I would imagine it's a standalone PCM for the crate motor. I don;t know that there would be any integration needed. Just ditch the OEM Ram PCM and be done with it. I think...

If it only was that simple, ditching the OEM means no more gauges, cruise, abs and a million other things! Been said often here before, making the engine run on a standalone is the easy part, making the rest of the truck cooperate is the tricky part!

A few years ago I tried to run a megasquirt parallel with the oem pcm. I failed due to still having the transmission needing management. The pcm provides engine management, transmission management, electronic throttle control, emissions monitoring, and auxilary systems.
What is needed to run a stand alone system is to maintain pcm ability to manage auxlilary systems. Aux systems are voltage regulation, ac, cruise control, speedometer, gauges, lights and power to accessories. Anti-lock system seems to work no matter what I do to the rest of the systems. Since then I have removed the tcm function, etc and turned off emissions. And at a different time even had the engine management disconnected. This leaves the aux systems doing what they do, which is what we want to maintain. The critical inputs that drive the pcm are: crank and cam sensor, engine temp, IAT, MAP, oil press, TPS, VSS.
To connect the stand alone ecm simply follow install instructions using a cable driven tb usually a LSX variant. If something pops up from the pcm most likely it can be turned off. I've simplified this explanation a little, but not by much. Life gets much simpler once the 545rfe pos is removed. Good luck..
