Flex a lite fan probe or inline

Which do you guys prefer and feel is more accurate. Was reading a forum on another page and someone had complaints about the probe rusting either the radiator or the probe itself. Looking to order everything later this week finally so i want to do it right the first time. Also for the daily driver is the variable speed controller necessary? Thanks

Ive used both types, the probe first and then the wet bulb. The wet bulb imo is the best way to go. I use an adjustable thermostat st to come on at 203 and off at 190.

Right on Greg. Do you recommend putting in a 180 t stat or sticking to stock?

Ive used a 180 stat for many years without any adverse issues. The 180 gives me a pretty solid 188 at cruise. I have a 170 in it now which gives me 178-183. With the electric fan running sitting still i can pull it down to 176. Im also using a all aluminum bbc radiator. So there are a lot of variables. But the 180 is a good choice imo.

I run a 180 stat issue free. I also run the probe style on an adjustable stat trigger. This trigger is used to trigger my fan relay and it has been in the truck this way for 9yrs now and not failed yet.

Keep in mind I made an aluminum shroud for my fan so it covers every single inch of the core. In 98 degree weather I can sit in traffic all day and not get hot now. The flex lite fan I believe will get hot sitting in traffic or at least Bills did up north.

Just a note many of us have over ride switch to run the fan regardless of the temperature. In traffic i can turn mine on and keep the temp steady. If im using the efan controller it rolls up to 203, fan comes on and pulls it down to 190, fan cuts off and it goes back up to 203 and continues to cycle until the truck is moving. Horsepower makes heat. At the track i turn on the efan and intercooler aux fan until i stage.

Keith, do you have a flex a lite or do you run a different fan? I'm interested in that shroud if you wouldn't mind sharing a pic or two.

Greg, I think I know what switch you're talking about. Something similar to the one that flex a lite sells that I believe is a 3 stage toggle switch. If it's worth it I would definitely consider installing one.

I use a flex-lite fan and shroud but everything else is custom made. Along with the overide switch i also have a led that illuminates with the fan on.
