Caution: Heresy ahead!

Ok, so you might recall the truck and engines fiasco I was working on.

Well, the gf said to hell with it, and just sold me the truck for $500. And went and bought herself a Toyota.

So now I have a fullsize 03' with everything, except a longblock 5.7. Its an excellent California truck (she moved here from Cali). Great shape zero rust.

So now the fun questions.

Since im not really interested in touching another Hemi, does anyone out there make Trans to Engine adaptors for Small block chevys to dodge trannys?

The way I figure it, I can buy another hemi and drop $3100+.

Or I can just build a small block chevy (like ive done 100 times) for $600
FAST fuel injection for $1600
Adaptor plate and custom flywheel. $?
I'll make the motor mounts.

So I might spend the same amount of money (or less), BUT I wont have to worry about the HEMI deciding to randomly break a valve spring, drop a valve seat, break the cheap plastic timing tensioner, or grind down its own cam.

My further question would be, the Trans. What communication would I need with it (im assuming it has a VSS)?

The reason I would go through the trouble to keep the dodge tranny is, its great. I like it.

Any input appreciated.

I doesnt look like there is an adapter on the market. But i can build my own. Ive built a couple over the years. Last one was for a Mercedes to Ford tranny.
So that shouldnt be a big problem. So the biggest concern would be the electronics.

Only issue is you won't have a way to control a 545rfe trans without a hemi computer up and running on the engine it will limp out and only give you third gear. Now you could do the a518/46 swap and then you could put whatever engine you wanted in front of it.

Nobody buys a 545 because they want one, they buy them because they need it,.

If you really like that dodge trans you'll need a 3.7,4.7 or 5.7 hemi.
4l80 behind a LS series small block would be you best deal, making an adaptor to bolt a SBC to the 545 is the easy part.

You're out of Greencastle Pa? or N.C , if your here in PA, I might be interested in buying the roller if it's a RCSB.

My comments are not that constructive, it would be a problem getting everthing to function unless you stripped it and made a race truck out of it. Either way it's a bastard child without the hemi. But since you have issues withe hemi, maybe a diesel? Personally I'd crush it before dropping a Chevy in it... good luck.

All of the engines have done that at one point or another. It was mainly the 03s that the valve spring would break and drop a valve. That hasn't happened to any 5.7 Hemi with 6.1 exhaust valve springs that I know of.

Your best bet would be to stick with your Hemi and the 545rfe trans if the truck stays stock. That way it has some re-sell value and drives nice on the street.

But, if your building a race truck. You already know the answer to that.
