So with me out here in the samdbox, between my father in law, and my wife they have put LT headers onmy truck, y-pipe and a 6.1 cam, my question is is that a decent setup? what I heard was that it only works on the high end not for low end torque, I appreciate them taking the initiative while im gone, but just want the most powerful setup possible. thanx in advance guys

that's true..the power comes on in the 6.1 at higher rpms 3k+, it's not a bad cam because it's computer friendly. What i would do is do the other mods first and then if you still want morem then look at a different cam. other mods being 4.56 gears (which would get you to high rpm's quickly), efan, 180 tstat, underdrive pulley...

I agree with Fred, gears are a great mod. You also might consider advancing the 6.1 cam 4-6 degree's. I have not done this but it has been said that it makes the heavier trucks really jump. Do some research and see what you can find. Good luck and thanks for serving.

Now that's the direction I'm going. My thought is with aluminum heads we should beable to run an aggressive CR. With all the over the counter controllers that are now availble it is simple to build a progressive water/meth injection system to keep detonation tamed. Keep in mind methanol is 116 octane and is available most anywhere as -20 windshield washer fluid. It would do the same job as with a FI motor, cool the intake charge, raise the effective fuel octane and reduce chamber temperatures. Might even beable to go from 93 octane to a lower pump grade. How do you say 6.1 heads simply bolted onto a 5.7 stock block?

It's a bolt for bolt deal. Use the 6.1 push rods. Challenge is, to seal the truck intake to the bigger port 6.1 heads.

Sounds like a 6.1 manifold is called for. Which of course involves changing the engine front. It never ends.....
