Finally got Betsy's engine opened up and found a broken con rod in cyl 8. Looks like an oil issue but my pressure was good the whole time. So now its time to find parts. Any recomendations for internals? I've looked at Moes performance and seen those kits but I'm hoping I can save my crank. Should I consider the 392 stroker for my 03? I'm trying not to break the bank on this so I'm not sure about doing the stroker but the block will have to be bored to be usable.

Sorry to hear about that.

I would go with a 370 stroker instead. I've only heard great things about them. Seems to be a better and stronger all around set up for the 5.7 Hemi. If I had to replace my stroker kit. It would be with a 370 stroker.

But, all of this depends on what performance your looking for. Just remember this. Most of the fastest trucks here have only the 5.7 Hemi engine. Hummmmm........

Did #8 rod spin a bearing?

Either 370 or 383 stroker, matched with a good cam and heads.

Is it possible to post a picture of the rod? I recently saw one broken and it looked like it could have been a rod bolt failure that lead to it's distruction. Curious...

Ok after several attempts to get the pics resized so they would be under 300kb limit have failed all I can do is tell you that rod 8 broke just about half way between the crank and wrist pin, the piston is esentially shattered from the wrist pin down, and the crank journal for rod 8 is worn down .032". I do believe I had an oil problem. I now have the engine completely disassembled and will find a machine shop to magnaflux the block and bore it.

Doesn't sound like a rod cap bolt failure. I was wondering if there were problems with cap bolts breaking, but maybe not. Thanks,
