03 5.7 in 07 2500?

I have an 07 2500 with a popped 5.7. I found a complete but rough 03 2500 with a good running 5.7. Iím thinking this should work as a replacemt as theyíre both non MDS(but I have to change over the valvecovers/coils). Just making sure Iím not missing something

The 2007 should have a 32 tooth tone ring same as the 03. The 03 doesn't have a egr. The 07 as you mentioned us the 06+ dual coils which isn't an issue. Should be a straight swap.

It's like tossing in a 86 360 from power ram into. 73 power wagon and swapping the valve covers .

How about the transmission? I was thinking of doing the whole thing, engine/trans/transfer case, as one unit. I know 03ís used a separate TCM for the transmission but Iíve always understood a 545rfe is a 545rfe. Again just want to double check and not run into a problem when everything is installed.

Is just the external transmission computer that’s different. It’s only worth changing out If you are planning on tuning it for any purpose

No tuning or monkey business, just a straight swap. The 07 has a trans in it and is supposed to be good, but the trucks been sitting for 4 years with the engine out and in the box and the transmission exposed (no hood on the truck). It's probably fine but I want to stick a known runner in, because I'd be pretty miffed if I just did the engine and found out the trans/tcase had an issue and had to do that as well. I'm going to swap the whole running gear

The 07 TB plug is different than the 03's TB. You can simply use the 07 TB or if you want to use the 03 TB you will need to also use the 03 plug and wire it to the harness inplace of the 07 plug.
