Strange 'tapping' 'ticking' noise..(video)

Ok, well things have been going good for the mail order engine.

But she started making a noise. The noise started after changing the oil, and putting in a cheaper oil (because I was worried I hadnt given it enough break in time). From Amsoil to Oreilley conventional.

It wasnt immediate ofcourse. So could be unrelated.

Infact, when it started tapping, me and the old lady were on different schedules that I hadnt even had a chance to hear it yet. She thought it was 'something hitting the fan'. And then she drove it to Missouri and back (5hr 1way) with it ticking... before I had a chance to even hear it.

Now that I have heard it, ofcourse its not the fan. But something that NEEDS addressed. I immediately changed back to Amsoil.

There are no codes or pending codes.
Driveability seems no different.
The ticking revs with the engine.

Sorry for the video quality. I used an external mic on my phone to give the best audio quality as possible.

I did notice in the Haynes 2B-13 paragraph 16, it says to install the trans brace correctly, or it could be damaged and cause engine noise.
I did the best I could torquing that brace in sequence. And had no issues for probably 1000mi or so.

Could that be it? Or just a crap lifter?

It sounds to me to be valve train noise. I would use a stethoscope and see if i could determine which side, and identify a cylinder. Remove the spark plugs looking physical damage and different color. Remove the valve cover to inspect valve springs and rocker arms. Is it smoking?

That's is way louder under the truck and has a tinny type sound along with a light tap. Take that plate off and make sure the torque converter bolts are tight. This could also be a loose or cracked flywheel have heard this on a ford before sounded exactly like that. This noise is deff down low somewhere the sound amplified the second you went to the lower area and seemed the loudest right near the drain plug

I agree. But I wasnt sure if perhaps it was a valve/lifter issue transmitting down through the exhaust. Effectively amplifying the sound underneath.
But that is the first place I will look. I actually recall thinking about putting locktite on the TC bolts, but didnt. Thanks

Ok, i took another vid underneath with it running, with the trans brace removed. But im sure it would take youtube 3hrs to get it uploaded.

I can say all the tc bolts are tight, and there is no sign of rubbing on the flywheel. I hand rotated the engine (clockwise) to visually check the flywheel. Aswell to listen to any sounds of contact. Everything looked good and sounded good. So I am now on top the engine. Pulled the pass valve cover.
I wiggled all the pushrods. The number 6 exhaust was the only one loose. I made a vid of it to.

So I hand rotated the engine and that #6 tightened up to the point I couldnt wiggle it.
And all others were tight as well.

Whatchuh think? :/

Can I install the coils, and start and run the engine with valve cover off?
