Serious Random Electrical Issue - HELP!

Having an issue with my '04 Hemi P/U. It runs fine and all of a sudden, the radio cuts out and all the lights start to flicker, warning lights go on and off, etc.
It's morphed to now it will cut out completely, including the engine and won't do anything. Nothing works, no lights, won't crank over, nothing. You can hear a faint whining noise while this is happening.
Then after a few minutes it will start again.
The last time (yesterday) it would start but, the headlights were on, even though the switch was off, and none of the gauges were working and there was a "message on the dash that looks to read "no bus"?
Once I shut the key off, everything turned off. Start it back up and the lights went back on and dash doing the same thing.

HELP!

Sounds like you have a data bus issue (can line problem) if you have a donor truck you can try swapping parts out but this one will likely take a good multimeter and some time maybe even a lab scope to watch the data line

Keith being an actual mechanic who uses proper tools and meters knows a lot more about trouble shooting your problem. But with you living up north with nasty weather and corrosive salts I would check and clean all the ground connections and have a look at the bottom of the fuse box/IPM. Your truck being a 04, the box bottom is open and exposed to road spray. You can crawl under the truck and look at it or unbolt it from the top and just flip it over. Look for green corrosion or burnt connections. Like Keith said it'll take some effort to find a random problem. Good luck.

A lot of times these issues will occur after off roading.

I agree with Redtruck. My 04 had been in the shop and diagnosed twice with the dreaded no bus condition. It would occur about once a month, I'd lose everything but the 3rd brake light. No lights, windshield wipers, gauges, everything would die. Shut it off and it would start up perfectly normally. Both diagnoses recommended new brains for the beast. As a hail-mary, I removed the ground cluster of wires under the hood, on the driver's side. Cleaned everything up real good. REAL GOOD. Almost polished the body where it connected and all the connectors with a wire wheel. It's been 10 years + and I've never had it reoccur once.

start with ground checks and the fuse box for sure if you come up with nothing there then its time to start digging around deeper
