Thanks John..
Carried some pieces to the machine shop. Experimenting with some different spring setups trying to workout a compromise of rocker arm clearances and seat pressures. We're on the fourth set of springs.

The front cover has two hollow dowels to locate the cover (seal). I had to remove them from a core engine I have. Of course they didn't just fall out. So I soaked them with penetrating oil. Filled the hole with grease and tried hammering them out. No go.. heated them and tried twisting them out .. no go.. then screwed a 3/8" tap partially into them using a T wrench and success, they came out with little effort. The next step would have been to screw a 3/8" bolt into the dowel and then screw a nut, washer and shell down onto the block extracting the dowel.... there is always a way to work those pesty blind holes...

Ric, the LS has the most selection and most likely it'll be one of them...

Took the sniper valve covers to the shop to check for fit. I'm using stanke valve train girders, clamps and shafts on edelbrock heads. Short story is they don't fit right out of the box. It'll take some machining and mssaging to get them to clear and seal. Stock valve covers... no chance..

I'm thinking of using the Stanke Girders /Collars as well , on my 03-08 5.7 heads.

They don't have clearance problems do they ?

It's the springs/rocker combo your using

There are a couple problems. The dimension from the spark plug flat to base seal is about .150" off. If I cut the spark plug flat rubber seal in half it'll pull down properly. And then the coil boxes on the Sniper cover interfere with the Stanke girders and will need some grinding. I briefly sat the Sniper cover on a stock 05 head and didn't see any obvious problems. The fitment issue is the edelbrock head, Stanke and Sniper combo. I sat a (06) oem cover on the edelbrock head and it was obvious there was a lot of interference happening and it was a no go. The Stanke girders are thicker than oem shaft clamps. This raises the head of the hold down bolt. May need to trim the bolt head. I'm going to go over everything again monday. I find it hard to believe edelbrock would change the basic sealing dimension of the spark plug flat to bottom seal.

Re-read edelbrock sale pitch discription and they state the edelbrock head can use oem valve cover, so it must be the Stanke/ Sniper combo that is the issue...

The problem was a slight interference with the Stanke girder and Sniper cover. Also the collars needed a little massaging to get .035" clearance with the spring. I suggest just take your time and fit each piece as necessary. Stock head might fit without issues. But the bottom line is its a strong setup and it does fit...
