P0420 code

Okay, so I know this is a 02 sensor code for the driver side. Says bank 1 but doesn't say which sensor. Is there only one on the driver side? sorry for the dumb question but we have company and just wanted to know. Can't go out and work on it right now plus it's freezin here.

That's a cat efficiency code so that would most likely be the rear cat.

Unfortunately your gonna need a catalytic converter... that's a catalyst low efficiency code.

The code is: P04201/1 Catalytic Conv Eff, there is only one OC Sensor on the drivers side near the catalytic converter. Most likely the sensor is bad, altho the converter itself could be bad. You can lightly tap on the converter with a hammer, if it rattles inside, the catalytic converter is shot. If you replace the OC Sensor, buy a Mopar unit, most aftermarket ones don't last long.

That is also a likely suspect. If the sensor is reading correctly it is reading the cat.

Well i will say this. I ran a Powerfoam treatment in it the other day before this popped up and i noticed the exhaust was getting a little hot before i shut it down so i figured maybe i fried an o2. Heck if its a cat i might be doin exhaust sooner than i thought. Im will spend the money on headers and a y before a stock cat. Lol. Problem is when this code pops up the mds and my remote start disables. Thats the main issue.

You might try isolating the sensor using non-foulers or just wrap it with tin foil and tie it out of the way.

Yes, that could help determine if the sensor is bad.
