Key and FOB dilemma

Okay so my 09 has a remote start and ine of the FOBs is acting like its battery is goin dead. If I replace the battery in it am I going to have to reprogram it with the remote start or what? I have reprogrammed remotes that are new before but never just swapped a battery so didnt know if the code is saved or what.

Also I don't have a regular door key as apparently the original owner must have lost it or forgot to give it to dealer or whatever. Didnt think much about it until this FOB was acting up and it got me thinking about what if my FOB didnt work and I needed a door key to get in. Buddy of mine thinks I should be able to call dealer and get a key recut with the VIN possibly. I won't be able to mess with it til next week when I get back in town but was curious if anyone has done either of these things.

I have replaced my fob/key battery (07 Dodge Ram 1500) before with no reprogramming needed. I have since added an alarm system to my truck. I no longer use the key for entry into my truck.

Yes, you can take your registration to the dealer and they will cut a key for you.

The fob shouldn't need to be programmed after the battery is replaced. And as Greg said, bring the registration and ID and the dealer will cut you a key. They can get the key code by your vin.

The fob is not what's programmed, it's the truck. The truck "learns" the fob. I have four fobs for mine, three of which were added later.

Well, had a battery for my key FOB in my drawer last night so I replaced it. FOB works great now and to kill two birds with one stone when I was taking the FOB apart the door key fell out of the FOB. Lol. Didn't know that the key was part of the FOB. Never had one like that before. And didn't notice or realize that little slider switch on it that releases it. So now all my FOBs work and I don't have to get a key cut. haha.
