"Hemi Tick"

I have an 04 hemi 4dr 4x4 and in the last 6 months it started the hemi tick I believe. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like a sewing machine. It bothers me because I can hear it, especially going through the drive through bouncing off the wall. I am very picky about my truck and want to get it fixed and only want to fix the problem. Does anyone know for sure what causes it so I can go ahead and get these parts replaced? I heard it was the valve springs and lifters, all the way to the exhaust heat shield could be loose and so on. The truck has 148K on it with no motor or tranny problems (knock on wood).

A common problem thought to the tick is an exhaust bolt broken and leaking. You can use a hose holding one end to your ear and snaking the other end down around the manifolds.

Smile Broken Exhaust bolts

My '06 Hemi has broken 4 manifold bolts-2 on each side. No fun to repair, but it was done. The ticking sound would go away after the motor would heat up.

The tick quieting down as the engine warms up is typical.
