Hemi new intake not same as old one. more???'s

Ok, so this SHOULD be my last round of questions.

I have a nonEGR 03' dodge truck.

Ordered a new intake from RockAuto. Its obviously an EGR intake.

No matter. I made a plug.

The question is the Foam insert. The original Foam insert that fit the original intake will not fit the new intake.

I went to install the new intake, and it sat up about 1/4" to high, because it wont mesh with the old foam insert.

There want any foam insert that came with the new intake (even though it said on the site that it does).

So, questions? How do I make my old foam fit the new intake?

WTF is this foam insert for anyways?

Can I just pitch the foam all together?

I think it's there to keep squirrels out. I don't use one, but I use a different manifold. If you can cut on it a little to make it fit I'd probably re-use it. Otherwise I'd toss it.
My 2 cents...

I only said that because all I've ever found under the manifold is nut shells. Good old country living....

It's insulation to help keep heat soak to a minimum. It's not for pests as they can just burrow right through it in a minute flat if they wanted. I would definitely try to get it to work.

Spoiler! I thought pest deterrent was a good answer. At least in my neighborhood....

Well, there's no reason you can't lace it with something while it's out.....

So its insulation?

Is there any place out there that sells these? If its that important, id rather just buy the proper one.

Ive tried various search terms, but not having much luck.

I have plenty of Mylar I could put in there. Kinda seems a better way to go than the foam anyhow.
