Engine Temp.

Question about the engine temps. I noticed the other day my 2017 running at 221 for a couple minutes but then dropped to 199. Now I know the outside temp being 95 - 100 and also running the ac will take temp up a little but 221 is that a little too high or is that normal for that temp to fluctuate that much?

On a 3g you see the thermostat sticking closed a little on it's initial opening when first warming up. My 180 degree stat might read 195 before opening. Never 221... thats too high for my setup. For yours I don't know, but IMO it's high.

Chrysler has been known for years woth a stock stat in hot weather to see as high as 230 degrees. It’s not uncommon and it’s not something to worry about. Once the stat opens the trucks/cars normally run around 190-210 range so as long as it does that your fine.

That's exactly what it's doing, it will go to 221 but then drop when it opens up I know thermostats open and close, and i know you have warm weather and cold weather thermostats. guess its time to put a cool thermostat inside

Summer or winter (if you really want to call it that here in Central Texas) I consistently run between 204.6 - 208.4...

Nah it’s working fine but a 180/190 stat is better idea

I just not used to see it go up to 221. The temp gauge will not go past half so I know that is a good thing right there. always thought 212 was highest it should go.

Agreed, 221 is too high for me. But actually as long as it isn't blowing steam it is cooling. 212 being boiling at sea level. Adding a pressure cap raises the boiling point significantly higher. And adding water wetter will make the cooling system more efficient.

It’s normal for stock vehicles I do this all day and it’s not uncommon Chevy will reach over 230 before opening most times nothing odd there
