Cat gong bad ?

Last week or so when i go across a hill, i get a wiff of what appears to be my catalytic converter. Truck has 177,xxx miles on it. How do you go about testing it ? Wonder if that is why my exhaust has a fluttering sound at low rpm's ? I smacked it with my hand and I don't hear any rattles. Btw no resonator but I'm not sure if the 03 came with one or not.

If you've got an '03 then you do have a cat...and by the way the '03 cats are the best flowing "factory" cats around...hope your's isn't going bad.

I don't think the 03 had resonators. Mine didn't, but my buddy's 04 did. Use a rubber hammer and smack it good a couple of times. I think there is a procedure where you plug a pressure gauge into a upstream bung. But don't know where you might find max allowable pressure. But would guess less than 3-4 pounds. I just threw away two used Magaflow cats. I thought they were bad, but when I replaced them they looked good. I may still have a advertised "magaflow high flow" hidden in my stash. I'll look and pm you if I find it. Recommend you read up on the differences there are among cats. There's a lot of bs and hype.

Can anyone tell me the size of the cat and the inlet/outlet diameter ? I have the single exhaust with the 1 in and 2 out muffler, so i only have the single cat
