Any tips for replacing the steering column?

Apologizes if this is not the correct forum, but I am trying to replace the steering in my '03 Ram, and I am running into an issue where the shaft goes in to the coupler. Where the 13 mm locking bolt is. I got the old steering column out, but now I can't get the shaft back in.

Sometimes you have to spread the pinch with a chisel to get it to slide back into it.

I installed the old one, and it slide right in. Did the intermediate shaft change between the 2003, and 2005?

From the quick search I did yesterday it didn't seem to; also do you know what all changed between the 2003 dash, and the 2006-08 dash? I can get an entire 2006 dash for 200 bucks.

Don’t believe it’s different but also have not looked at two different ones either. The dash is a good ?. I will be putting my 2005 dash in my 2003 truck very soon but as of right now no idea if it will wire like factory. The 2006 dash will fit bit wiring no idea.
