My 04 has a build date of 9/2003. I had zero issues when I swapped in the 2005 PCM. It's still in the truck today and it run better than ever. You shouldn't have any problems.

Been modifying the timing tables to where there is no chance to exceed 22 degrees total. Then changes the timing down around idle area. Basically I raised timing below the rpm idle target and turned down the timing a touch above the target idle rpm. It idles at 750rpm solid as a stocker and this is with a stout cam with
.611" lift.. changed the throttle threshold voltage which smoothed out the light switch effect. There are tables that are enabled at various ect, map iat levels. Also tables that are blended. My goal currently is to make everything as simple as I can to have basic control. I need to connect my w/band to help with fuel settings. This is easy and honestly a lot of fun... but some care needs to be taken and a backup plan in place.

Seems like it could get expensive quick? Is it a $100 a tune? Or, is that just to get started?

The way I am reading it, it's $100 to register the vehicle and then you can tune to your hearts desire. Similar to using a diablo, register for your truck and then you can tune as much as you want.

If you have a vehicle licensed and change it's pcm, you will need to relicense it.
