My truck had 20" tires. Now I've put on 17's and I can't fit the bracket that holds the spare through the center hole of my 17" spare. Is there a remedy or do I just need to keep the 17" spare in the bed?

What I've done for carrying my spare in the bed is crossed two ratcheting tiedown straps in an X pattern from the lower bed tie points front to rear. The spare can be located under the center of the X, to either side of it, forward of it, or toward the rear and cinched down so it doesn't move. Easy to do and cheap.

Run to the dealer and buy a spare tire cable crank for a truck with 17" rims for your year and swich them out problem solved or do the spare in bed idea

Beats buying a truck with 20" and finding you have a 17" spare, like the new trucks.

Yeah, the main reason I want to put the tire under the truck where it's suppose to go is I need the bed space for my wheel chair. I'll try the dealer idea and if that don't pan out I'll do the rachet/tie down idea. Cause that spare tire does tend to move around the bed once in a while.

Thank Ya'll for your help!

Kevin, if you put the spare in the bed I would imagine you could move the spare up to the front and still get your chair in the back. The X straps could help hold the chair down with creative use of bungee cords.

Red sits so low I figure I'd never get the spare out from under it if I had a flat. When I carry a spare it's in the bed with a ratchet strap holding it in the forward part of the bed. Now I have run my exhaust in the area were the spare was. Even thought of using a cross flow muffler mount up under the rear in the spare tire area.
