After talking with a shop, if I don't get the feeling of them being on the same page I leave. A shop telling you what they will and won't do is fine. But is usually a indication of their limited abilities. Don't waste your time with them and never never leave your vehicle unattended at a shop to be worked on. Supervise the work or you will be unhappy with the out come.

i see this as a bit of a trend with some of the shops that are small with limited capabilities. Real custom work intimidates them and they make some BS excuses. When I was trying to get some custom body work done I was talking to one shop and the owner asked for my VIN and said he wouldn't weld my roll pan on. He acted as if it was his decision not mine. Finally found a hot rod shop and asked who did custom body work and they steered me to a shop. Takes time to find good shops.

I would agree with the "Not being talented enough to do the job" thought. Plenty of other shops out there!

Well, there is another side of the coin on this one. Some people ask for things that are destine for failure. A smart shop owner will decline these jobs.
