03 exhaust manifold bolt broke

Was changing oil today in my 03 and looked over the ehaust for a suspected exhaust leak. The back bolt on the passenger side is broke, i shined a lght up in the hole hoping the bolt had just backed out but it is broke off. How big of a job is it to replace ? Do i need to drop the inner fender to make it easier to get to ?

Removing the inner fender makes the job fairly straight forward. Shoot some penetrating oil on it a couple days before you pull the manifold helps.

Thanks Greg,
Do i need to remove the donut gasket or will the manifold pull out far enough to do the job ?

You will need to remove the manifold to get at the head, so yes. Stay with oem gaskets, but aftermarket bolts are recommended.

The shields seem to fall off first... I did mine years ago and used some I already had. They look like ARP sbc intake manifold bolts. I remember I had to shorten them. I'm sure you don't want to go through all that. Call one of the forum sponsors, they'll know what's best to use on stock manifolds.

Ok i got time today to tackle the broke exhaust manifold bolt. I pulled off the manifold and the only bolt that was broke was passenger side 1st one by the firewall. I tried welding a nut but it wouldn't take, so i decided to use a left hand drill bit. No wonder it wouldn't weld, it appears as if the manifold had been off before and someone filled the bolt hole with aluminum ! I drilled and tapped it enough to hold. Wonder why someone would do that ?
