sts wastegate

How come some of you have the wastegate connected to the pipe coming from the exhaust side of the turbo and others have it just open.
See pictures so you know what I mean.

The original STS design was to send the wastegate exhaust into the regular exhaust system.

That caused problems. Condensation from the exhaust filled the wg with water and in colder climates, the vacuum pulled water into the vac lines and froze, making the wastegate useless and boost went out of control.

STS now has a wastegate muffler for around $40.

So the better option without buying the wastegate muffler is to leave it open like in the 1st picture?

I think the wg mufflers are pretty nice. It really cuts down on the whoooooooooshing air sound coming from the wg under boost.

It still makes that sound with the muffler, just a different note.

It sounds like compressed air being released instead of the tires chirping.
