A new spark plug design?

Pilot has a new design out. It has protuded tip with a intermediate ground between the side strap and electrode.

Soooo Who's going to be the first guinea pig to run these on a dyno back to back against other plugs ????

IMO, spark plugs don't make horsepower. If they are of the proper heat range they will self clean. And if they are made of quality material and designed correctly for the application they will physically hold up... so its about having the proper plug for the application that's important. Anyway thats how I see it.

Well the spark plug experts say with a bigger explosion in the combustion chamber will burn off more of the fuel making more horsepower........BUT by burning off all of the fuel will that cause the Pistons to become overheated and then meltdown........ if anybody knows that answer please let me know.

In a perf engine KISS is the best method. From the reviews I saw on that plug lol it was all negative. Also that’s a tiny little piece to break off in there and possibly tear something up. Run normal plugs and a voltage/spark booster is anything don’t get stupid with spark plugs.

All this works hand in hand with the engines tune and difficult to seperate the different elements. If you are running lean the combustion cycle is hotter than running rich. Running extremely lean combustion destablizes often causing detonation. Detonation is uncontrolled ignition resulting in extreme cylinder pressures that can break pistons/rings. Higher the cylinder pressure more difficult it is to fire a spark plug and a narrower gap is beneficial along with max voltage, higher voltage coils. Higher the octane in gasoline the slower it ignites providing a steady controlled combustion. All these things working together allow tuning to achieve optimal performance with the spark plug playing it's part by providing adequate ignition, maintaining a heat range needed to self clean but not burn up. And being a design that resistant to having it's spark from being blown out. And to add to the fun, closer you are to being distructively lean is where the horsepower hides. This seperates forged parts from really high quality forged parts.
