Red face Stupid question...bear with me

so this is gonna make me look really stupid, but I've never used one of those automated car washes like at gas stations and I'm wondering if there's anything I need to do to the truck before going through one. For example, is it gonna snap off my long-a$$ antenna or anything like that???

Please go easy on me, hemi bretheren, I usually wash by hand...

I will take mine to a spray wash before I take it to any automated car wash. I don't trust those for the same reason you are asking! Lol. Don't want anything breaking off.

I'm just wondering if I was to use one, what would I need to do beforehand? Fold in the mirrors, remove the antenna, walk backwards on one foot?

Lol..I would imagine you wouldn't have to do anything. They make these things pretty safe nowadays. If I was to go through one I would look for a touchless car wash.

I don't think I've seen any touchless ones in my area... all have brushes. Just don't want to damage my purty black hemi. Truthfully, the only reason I'm considering using one is I hate doing anything outside when its 90 in the shade.

Yeah I hear ya! Doesn't take much to get those swirl marks. I hate those! Nothing a good wax and polisher can't get out though!

I'm ashamed to admit I don't know how to wax/polish a car... growing up in a poor family, the family car was lucky to get washed at all lol. I'm gonna have to learn because "Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl" must be code for "Stays dirty all the time"

I would use it if its not touchless. You never know what could be in those brushes.

I would stay away from any automated car wash that has rotating brushes... especially with a black vehicle! You'll get swirl marks and minor scratches pretty quick. The places I've seen in operation, the vehicle doesn't get a complete soak before the brushes start - so basically what is happening is those brushes are rubbing dry surface dirt all over the truck.

Try to find a brushless or DIY stall - then take the truck on the highway for a few minutes to get most of the standing water off. Then take her home and use a microfiber cloth to get the rest of the standing water so you don't have water spots. A little Mequiars "Quick detailer" does a great job on the spots that need more attention - again, use a microfiber cloth.

Good luck!

No way would I run Red through a car wash with brushes. I prefer bikini clad girls washing cars behind the parts store. Even then you have to be careful and check them closely to make sure they don't have anything sharp on them. Second best is doing it yourself.
