Offroad Camper Shell

Hey all....been far too long since I have been on here. Thought I would stop by, say hi and see what is new on here. Also, wanted to run an idea by you guys and get your thoughts. I thought I had posted this idea on here before but couldn't find it in my posts. I want to make an offroad style camper shell. I am going to make the frame from 2x2 steel square tubing (not sure on the wall thickness). The shell will be made from sheet metal. There will be enough supports throughout for not only an 8" tall cargo rack on top but it will also have brackets on the side to hold things such as an axe, shovel, straps, chains and a few jerricans. There will be lighting around the perimeter of the cargo rack along with lighting on the inside. The inside will be insulated and I will draw A/C from the cab via the back sliding window with an insulating ring in between the window and the camper shell. Might add vents across the top that can be opened to allow hot air to escape and closed to allow the A/C to cool it down. Would like to add power to the outside using a power inverter hooked to an extension cord. The extension cord would be on a retractable reel on the inside of the camper shell but would be pulled through the outside of the camper shell. Would eventually like to do something similar for an onboard air system but that is further down the road. Thoughts on what I have so far? Thanks all!

Def. will be heavy. Aluminum is what the framing is made of in most of the feather lite camping trailers. But sounds like you have a great design plan.

Would love to see a drawing/draft of the plan. Sounds like a great item for off roaders.

Would love to use aluminum but the cost of material and fabrication with aluminum is just too much.
