Amp-Research Powerstep

Just ordered a pair for, I think, a heck of a price (less than $1000 shipped).--Side note--I was going to buy in Calif (since I live here) but instead bought from AZ--no sales tax so saved over $100!

Anyway, I didn't think I'd needed steps for a 1500 (and I don't) but wife said she could use them. I had the 3 or 4" nurf bars on previous truck. I liked them, but I figured I got a Laramie this time so I might as well go all out. Right?

I'll get pics out once done.

Want to have one but that step is really expensive. Is yours comes with light kit?

Yes. Got it from Quality Bumper out of AZ. With the 15% discount, no sales tax, and free shipping--the total was less than $1000.

Zoinks...almost 10 hrs later and just about have it done. The mechanics of the install--very basic--that took all of 1 1/2-2 hours, taking my time. It was wiring that bad boy up that took forever.

For some reason, Amp-Research changed the wire hook-up to inside the cab. But to get to the control box...holy mother of all good things big and small! I did not have the "right" tools. Trying to get a simple hexhead sheet metal screw out was an adventure. Forget a screwdriver or simple wratchet-they just didn't work. Either it was too long, too short, wrong angle of attack...So I was left using an open end wrench--but could only move it 1/6 of a turn, if that.

Finally, when I got it all apart to get to the control panel at the firewall--trying to loosen the tape to gain access to the wires took awhile. I was able to add in the connections and praying they took!

So, it's all wired up and half put together-just in case something isn't working. Well, I got 3 out of 4 doors to work, so I'll need to jump back in and see if lose wire.

Pics will come later.

New problem. (WARNING: This is an installation for professionals since connections go inside the cab. If I would have known it would take 2 days and super sore ribs...I would have paid the extra.)

That 4th door not working...I thought I tapped into a purple/yellow wire (actually purple-brownish/yellow--and upon closer inspection and moving a few wires around, there was another purple/yellow wire. Connected to it and it works.

So...
During the install of A-R Power Steps, I disconnected the negative cable to attach the negative cable for the controller. Inside the cab, to get to the control module on the firewall to hook up the steps, I disconnected what look like a ground cable, but w/ some components wrapped up in foam--just so I could get to the module.

Now, things that aren't working/illuminated: inside lights, garage door opener, 2x4/4x4/all-wheel drive indicators, ventilated/heated seats via the button (but it will via the EVIC), lights stay on-while driving, dimmer won't work...probably a few more items.

I took the truck for a 30 min drive, and tried recycling it a few times in the driveway, and the compass finally came on.

I've put my tail btw my legs and called the dealer a little while ago. In addition to checking the electrical prob, I do have a small oil leak. So they can take care of that, too.

But, the silver lining...steps work great!
