Mirror LED puddle/signal lights - not working?

I am new to Ram trucks so maybe I'm completely missing something simple... if so please excuse me for being a "newbie".

I just purchased a 2013 1500 Express w/5.7L Hemi, regular cab. While looking over my truck I noticed the mirrors had LED lights built into them. The mirrors are the black plastic with chrome on the back side of them. I have searched inside of the truck to find a switch to turn these lights on but I haven't yet found any switch that does that. To make this easier to read I'll just highlight some things below.

- I do not have a keyfob. Key only.
- I have set illuminated approach to ON.
- I have checked fuse F20 (40 amp, green) and visually it looks good.

So, I know from my web searches that if you buy a mirror aftermarket you have to get a dealership to flash some codes in order for them to work. These mirrors appear to be factory, they are heated and the plastic on them matches the plastic mount on the door... would assume you'd see a slight color variation as the door mount plastic would be older and thus have some "fade"... just a guess.

I checked fuse F20 because when I called Dodge's 800 number that's what the women told me to check. However she said it should be red and 50 amps but then only red fuses I seen was 10 amp and as stated above this particular fuse she told me to check was a green 40 amp fuse (square shape, not rectangular).

Anyhow, I'm at a loss on how to turn these things on. I would like for the blinker in the mirror to come on when I use my turn signal and would like for the puddle lights to come on when the doors are open. I have no idea if I should be looking for a fuse in the engine compartment or in the cab... or maybe it's not a fuse at all... need some guidance.

Thanks!

They should work automatically if they don't it's likely they are blown and won't work again. My 2012 had to have both sides replaced due the fact they stopped working.

Thanks for the reply. I've set up an appointment to get the lights looked at. Hopefully it don't take too long to get parts.

I have basically the same truck in a 2011 with no key fob. My puddle lights are fried but they used to work with door open just like the dome light. If you turn on the dome light inside with the switch they do not come on. With a key fob I believe they come on with unlock which is the lighted approach. I don't believe that setting in the options will do anything for you without the fob.

Now it's possible that, because you bought the truck used, the previous owner installed the tow mirrors physically without having the dealer flash the sales code for the puddle/turns in the mirrors. They will not work without that flash. Basically in that case the PCM doesn't know that they are there and that it should be turning them on. A build sheet should tell you if the truck came with tow mirrors or not.

They could also just be burnt out. I replaced both my amber turns when I bought my truck and both my puddles are fried right now.

Truck has only one previous owner which was as a fleet vehicle. I wouldn't imagine these being aftermarket because of that. I'm thinking they must be burned out. I've seen other post about LED burning out... must be a common thing.

Yeah, it is a pretty common thing unfortunately. Be prepared for sticker shock too when you have them fixed......the amber turns aren't too bad but there's a reason I haven't replaced my puddles......
