Wheel Help

Hi All,

Need some help. I have a 1500 Ram with stock 17" cast wheels that I want to change. I want to keep the same size as the tires are great, and I have a 3.55 rear. My problem is that I can't figure out if wheels will fit properly. It's the whole offset/backspace/rear spacing issue. I have been told that my Ram has a 4.625 backspace..no idea if that is true. Anyway..the wheel I am really interested in is the Cragar S/S 610 series, one piece aluminum. The wheel is correct in that it is 17x8, with a 5x5.5 bolt pattern. However, it lists the rear spacing as 5 1/8". So first..does anyone know if 4.625 is really the Rams standard wheel offset? Then, does anyone know if going from a 4.625 to a 5 1/8" is going to make much of a difference or cause any problems. Any help would really be appreciated...thanks.

i dont know if the 4 5/8 backspace is right for your truck , but i do know that there is a 1/2 inch difference in your 2 measurments. If both are correct then your new wheels would sit a 1/2 inch to the inside of what your stock wheels are. I dont think that it would cause any problems except it probaly would look a little funny from the front and the back. It could cause problems with hitting the outside frame rail but i dont think that a 1/2 inch would matter. If thats the only offset you could find then you could get 1/2 inch wheel spacers and longer studs. I dont know if that helps you out any but thats all I know. This message has been edited. Thanks for the info guys....lilhemi, if our stock spacing is actually 5 or 5 1/2....then with the 610's having 5 1/8, can't see a problem. JEGShas them as does CruisinChrome A Hemi sitting on top of some Cragar S/S's....now that's gotta take you back

This is actually kind of a dilema with aftermarket rims for our trucks. I have been looking at rims myself and find the offset recommended from various companies to be as different as their rims are. I agree, would like the factory off set.

Exactly NHHEMI.....what a major pain... I have emailed Cragar directly hoping for an answer. My problem is the web mail order places have great prices....they say they will fit perfectly....but I want to make sure before I actually order them and possibly have to return them....

Hey All, just a follow up...I am now being told that the 17" Cragars will not clear the calipers....I have heard this with a lot of the 17" custom wheels....so it looks like I will have to upsize to an 18" wheel if I want to upgrade....at 18" I might as well look at the Coddington Smoothie II.

I just got some 17" Centerlines that clear the rotors easily. I haven't mounted new tires on them yet (waiting to wear out these POS Goodyears).
