My original Michelins still got plenty o tread, and handle well on dry surface, but wet,and they're dam near worthless, plus, when running for times, they spin right through 2nd. gear. What would be a good replacement to solve these problems?TireRack shows very little in 17 in. size.I'd like a little better speed rating also! Thanks,Joe Zucco.

Joe, ya have two separate needs here. It's very hard to get a good compromise between bad weather handling and running at the track.
You might try nitto grapplers for harsh weather. and a pair of toyos for the track. I'm not a seasoned racer but it would seem that if you are overpowering your tires need either a larger or wider tire size. I know some of the guys here deflate the tires somewhat when running at the track just for the traction. I'm sure you will get some others to chime in with help. BTW, I have a real good set of 17 inch Toyos on MB rims that have only been on the ground for two spring and summer seasons. I had a set of fair weather Toyos and a set of foul weather Nittos. The Nittos went with the old truck when I traded up to the 2012.

A size that has good foot print is a 275/55-17. I ran a set of Firestone's HP and the did alright in the dry, a little slick on water. Reoplaced then with Dunlop SP5000, tire look good excellent in the rain and decent dry traction. Could not get them to run smoothe, they had hard spots. Replaced them withGeneral Grabber UHP. Excellent dry traction, good wet. Good luck..

If you are talking track tires then by all means get a set of really short DR's and knock that time down. SS/T (17x9) rims can be bought for $140 shipped from Hub Cap Heaven,

There's always Caltracs too when the tires just won't do well enough.

IMO, CalTrac's are great They are relatively light, control axle wrap keeping the pinion angle from twisting the driveshaft. Good for traction and saving the equipment from damage.
