Shocks for torsion bar lift

I did the torsion bar lift for a 1 1/2" gain in hieght in the front. Yep, it sure handles differently. Can I use "stock" length Rancho/Bilsteins for the front or do I need to go with the next size up?

I'd email Rancho and Bilstein and see what they have to say.

Thanks Freeze... I was going to do the same thing since I don't have a good answer. Common sense tells me the "stock" size would be quite a strain on the shocks.

Well sh*t, Bilstein is closed till next week and Rancho couldn't give me a straight answer. Yes, the stock length RS5000 would fit but would be pretty close to topping out. The next size up is for a 4" lift....way to long. Off to the 4X4 shop tomorrow to see what they have. I did have the alignment checked today. Toe was out by a little bit. I total of 3/4-1 turn on each side.

Okay, here is what I have learned... stock shocks have a 13-18" travel length. At resting hieght it is 15". With the 1.5" lift the shocks now sit at 15.8". I will use Rancho RS5000 direct replacements for the rear as I did no lifting in the back. The fronts will get P/N RS5283. Travel length is 12.5-19.1". The bump stops only let you compress the suspension about 2" anyway. So, there should be plenty of room. I went last Friday to get them and they were sold out. Next delivery is this Wednesday. Will make a run Thursday. Hope to have my new Hellwig by then also. This should really stiffen things up.

Okay, forget everything I said about putting longer shocks on the front. They test fitted them today before pulling the stock shocks out...to long. Fronts will be replaced with "stock" length RS5000's. We even tried BDS racing shocks. Same thing. So, direct replacements for front and rear.
