Celtic,
I used the stock replacements. I swapped them out with the truck still on the ground. You will be about an inch short on full length travel.

Thanks BB.Do you mean I`ll be short like the stock shocks or shorter than the the RANCHOS i tried to install. And when you say you replaced them with stock replacments, was that with rancho or dodge dealership ones, and if with ranchos what was the model #. Thanks again BB.

Go with the Rancho direct repalcements. They probably tried to install Ranchos that fit the 4" lift. Those are definatley to long. I have been down that road already. The Rancho shocks have a longer travel than stock shocks. I originally did 6 turns on the torsion bars and have just recently backed them off 2 turns. The truck now sits at 37" (drivers side) in the front. Tha back is stock at 38". The shocks are now about 1/2" short of full suspension extension. I do not do any serious off roading either so this works well for me. As far as being short on the compression side of travel... don't worry. The Ranchos can compress a little farther, besides you have more travel length on that side of the shock compared to the extension side. Hope this helps.

I have my torsion bars cranked up almost to the max(3") and have the Rancho RS9000X shocks and they only top out if I don't slow down enough and hit a huge speed bump...they are listed as the direct replacement for 0-2" lift for all '02-'04 1500 4x4s. I was considering adding one of the rubber bushings from the stock shocks under the top shock mount so the shocks would always be sitting with about 1" less extension...pretty much the same as moving the upper shock mount down 1". This would also limit the compression of the tire into the wheel well by 1". I have also heard that the stock shocks for the '01 Ram 1500 offroad pkg. work well on newer 1500s with torsion bars cranked.

HotSchott- you got 3" from cranking the bars? Were you able to get within specs for alignment?
