How do you remove the chrome clad wheel covers?

I want to paint my wheels. I know the chrome wheels are just covers. Has anyone removed them? I heard they are chemically bonded (glued). Is there a way to remove the cover without damaging it, if so how?

How do you remove the chrome clad wheel covers?

I remember seeing a pic here not too long ago... the rims actually looked pretty good with the cladding removed (kind of a gray/gun metal color).

I know you can get them off, but I dunno how to without damaging the chrome on the clad, or the clad itself. I wouldn't tried without expecting them to be broken. And anything strong enough to get under the adhesive may ruin the clad as well.

How do you remove the chrome clad wheel covers?

I made the little side by side photo in that thread. I talked to the seller of the wheels on the left (grey ones) He bought them off ebay as is. There was a seller for a short while who had a line of blemished 20" chrome clads he got hold of. All the cladding was removed and he was selling unclad stockers.

Other guys I have talked to literally had to bust the covers off and break them apart to remove them. As said above any chemical used to dissolve the adhesive will likely damage the cover.

Hemiram11 who has the black powdercoated SRT 22"s in that other thread did this. He liked the unclads a lot though. Said it made them look more aftermarket. He had them painted/coated black also. I say go for it if ya want. But here is no turning back. lol That being said, a guy from the UK with a Hemi QC bought some of the clad covers off eBay somehow. They were never installed. Maybe he will sell you those if you wanna go back. lol

How do you remove the chrome clad wheel covers?

I've been wondering if/how the covers could be removed or replaced if they were scuffed or damaged. My new wheels are starting to peel around the valve stems. I;m going to let dealer know about this so if it gets worse, the defect is documented for warranty repair/replacement.
Also, I'm wondering if the wheel weights will discolor or damage chrome plasic cover.
Nissan Titans offer a chrome wheel in '08 that are the same chrome plastic "clad" idea.
