Holy wheel weight batman.....

I had new wheels installed last week, and I think there is a problem. The new wheels are Centerline 17X9 Forged Polished wheels with existing BFG A/T 285/70/17 (10,000 miles or so?) The first tire went on and it took over 16 oz. to balance out!!!! The next one took about 5 oz, 3rd one about 10 oz, and didn't see how much went on the last one. That seems really extreme, especially the first one. The stock wheels didn't have much mor than a few ounces on when they were balance. The new wheels were balanced with sticker weights. The stock wheels with clip on weight on the outside of the wheel. I drove down to Myrtle Beach from MD and there is still pretty significant shimmy like the wheels are out of balance. Any suggestions?

Did you have the tires put on or were they on the rims?
Were the rims new or used?
Did you have those tires on your other rims?

Sounds like bent rims or bad tires!

The new wheels are brand new, bought directly from Centerline. The tires were on the Stock wheels for about 10,000 miles and were fine.

You can move the tire around on the rim to try and balance the two out. Sounds like you have the heavy side of each on the same side.

From my experience of working in a tire shop, if we ever had any rim that took a lot of weight we would pull the weights back off and re-calibrate our balancer. We would check to see if there was a bend in the rim but mostly the calibrating usually fixed the problem. IMO, take it back, especially if it is shaking.

They did that, which helped to a point. The first time they tried, they couldn't get it to balance at all.

I'm definitely not taking it back to the same shop. They were like the three stooges tring to get the wheels balanced and mounted.

Might just be a lack of experience with the techs. Now I'm imagining 3 guys slapping each other, hitting their hands with hammers and your truck falling off a jack onto their feet.

Take it to a shop with a Hunter GSP9700 and a tech who knows how to operate it.
