Heads up..rear brake pads..no squeeker

I found this out this weekend after hearing a grinding noise on my 04 1500 while I was braking.
Some brake pads come with a "brake warning sensor" that will emit a squealing noise when the pads are worn to a point where they should be changed. The front pads have them, but the rear pads do not have them.
I have always assumed the had them on all 4.

Anyhow, after 96,000 miles, I finally wore my rear pads out.
I had to remove the rotors and have them turned to get the groove fixed.

It is all good now, but I was pissed at the place that did my yearly state inspection for not noticing that the pads were almost shot.
Then again, I guess I should have checked them myself...

I hope others read this and don't make the same mistake.

I know in PA when they do inspection, they make a note on the sheet of what all the brakes and tires are at at the time of inspection. Rear brakes last A LOT longer than fronts because most of the stopping power is in the front. 96K is good though.

Strange as it may sound, I've got 72K on my original pads, and rotors.

I was up around 80k on mine, and needed dancing lessons trying to bring it to a quick stop.

I've got 89,000 on the original pads and rotors. The front need to be changed SOON. I am going with the NAPA high performance rotors and pads all the way around.

Glad you got it fixed. Inspection stations just look for wear on the rotors, most don't pay attention to the pads....

I bought my truck used, but at 25000 the dealership said the fronts were at 15%, backs still at 80%. I want to do the slotted rotors and some good pads, will I need to get new calipers also?
