I thought about putting this in the Other Vehicles section, but it doesn't look like it gets much action all the way down towards the bottom.

Before I met my wife, her dad passed away and left her a 2007 base model Corvette convertible. We've been having issues starting it lately. Normally, I would just try to replace the battery. But my wife said she had it replaced about two years ago. It has been jumped several times because it wasn't getting driven often enough, so I guess the battery could be bad on it. But last time I cranked it, it ran for a good 30-45 minutes. Long enough for me to drive about 10-15 miles in town, buy some fuel system cleaner, pump some gas, and check and correct the tire pressures. Immediately after I shut it off, I tried to crank it, and it wouldn't even try turn over. Should I go ahead and try a new battery before moving on to the alternator and/or starter? Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to have your local parts store check the battery. A bad cell would mess you up.

Check the battery. Have had the same problem with batteries on my Iroc when I rarely use it. I think I'm on my 6th battery in 12 years. I don't think I've ever had a battery last more than 3 years and sometimes only one. Seems to be a GM issue that no one can figure out. I've had it checked out several times including alternator twice. If I'm not running the car for awhile I disconnect the battery. I experienced the same issues on Buicks as well.

I figure there's so much electronic stuff on this car that's on even when it's just sitting there. The biggest thing I'm sure is the way the keyless entry works. It's one of those where you don't have to ever take the fob out of your pocket, it works off proximity.

I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and put a battery on it. Anyone know a good place to put a set of leads to check the charging system?

Go to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto, they will check your battery and alternator for free.

Thanks. I may take the battery there and let them test it. I don't want to drive the car because it is in dire need of a set of tires. We just don't have an extra $1,800 laying around. And even if we did, it would probably be on my truck in some form anyway. lol

Similar issue with my Mom's Buick. I put a brand-new battery in it in 2008. It's only been driven about a kilomile since. We've had to jump it often since it'll sit for months without being touched. I guess it needs another $110 battery.

I guess my first order of business should be the tires. Otherwise I'll just be going through this again later. Lol
