285/70/17?

I have the stock 17" wheels and am currently running on 265/70/17. I've researched the forum and think that I can put 285/70/17 on without any modifications or the need to purchase new wheels?

How wide can you get without the need to purchase new wheels?

Also if I go with the 285/70's will that affect the reading on my speedometer?

I also read about some of the problems that people had at Sears. I'm going to be purchasing some tires (hopefully) this Sunday during a friends and family sale. Am I going to have a tough time convincing them to install a larger than stock tire on my wheels?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Chris

I believe you can fit the 285s on there with no problem.

You shouln't have a problem, with a company installing a larger size tire. Sears though was giving me a hard time last weekend. Won't go into that all the details but basically, there computer is not updated and the guy was giving me a hard time, telling me what size tire I have. He didn't believe that the 275/60/20 are stock (as if I didnt know my size tire) blah blah....

No good Tire place should give there customer a hard time about what they should or should put on there truck unless it is really outrageous. Such as adding 35s to a stock etc....

Thats a great shot mudchucker. I need to do that with my 22's on to see how much clearance there really is.

285's (33") will fit on the stock wheels without any issues.

I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen several people run the 295/70 and 305/70 with no problems on the factory wheels.
