Vibration.

Hey all,

Quick question. How can I tell if a vibration I'm getting when braking is the front rotor(s) or the lower ball joints? Only happens when I brake, so I'm thinking warped rotor(s). But I don't know is there a way to test it? I heard if you jack up the front end and you can"wiggle" the front rim then it's your ball joint. Does that sound right? I also heard that if you jack up the front end and the wheel falls off completely, then you have another situation all together...

Usually warped rotors can be felt in the pedal. They aren't very common. Have to get the brakes very hot to warp...

It's more in the steering wheel and the dash sounds like it's going to fall out.

Make about 10-15 stops from 45-20 by then the rotors should be nice and warm and if it's the brakes you will likely feel it in the pedal but should deff feel the steering wheel Shake side to side when braking. If the wheel shakes just buy all new stuff for front brakes and do yourself in drive way cheaper.

To check the balljoints jack the truck up under the lower control arm and then with a good size pry bar lift and lower the wheel that's jacked from underneath. If the joint has play you will feel it this way.

Question

Guessing it's the rotors However if the wheel falls off that's another story ...

Most likely warped rotor. Do like Charged392 said and you will know for sure.

If it was ball joints I would think you would feel it in the steering more of the time then just stopping. How does the steering wheel feel when you hit bumps? if it steady probably not ball joints.

thanks all I'll give the suggestions a try and let you know. The rotors and pads I've done before so that isn't a problem. The lower ball joints on the other hand...ugh, I'll pay someone to do that for me. Thanks for the info.
