This past Saturday I heard a squeaking sound coming from the right front. After some investigation, I realized it was the lower ball joint. I am short on time, so I figured I would take this in to the dealer, but after getting the $583 quote plus another $100 for alignment (I can buy the Moog lower ball joints with grease fittings for $76 each), I think I am going to try and tackle this myself. I was hoping for some insight from the HTC members before I dove into this. Thanks.

Just curious to find out how this went for you. Found out this week my upper ball joints are a little loose. And was told While the uppers were being replaced, might as well do the lowers.

Alredy did both tie rod ends on my 03 and just orderd the upper controle arm. You cant buy just the ball joint. found a replacement at auto zone for 60 bucks. Its not that bad of a job to do over the weekend.

Ok reason i stumbled apon this thread. any one know the Toe-in specs for a 03 1500 4x4 i dont think i measured correctly when i did the tie rod ends. right now my tires looks like \ /
Driver side is about 1/8inch toe out passenger side is about 7/16 toe out.

my quote was $800 for all four ball joints and tie rods and alignment....seems your dealer was overcharging a bit....IMHO

Remember that to get to the lowers you need to remove the uppers and tie rods to remove the spindle, it would not be a big deal to replace the uppers and tie rods at the same time if you are doing the lowers. I think investing in a ball joint press would pay for itself if you were going to replace everything and do it yourself. I've done 2 lowers and an upper so far at at total cost to me of under $200 and they are not that hard to do.

Wish I was a 'do it yourselfer' like you. I'm getting quotes from 600 to almost 800 bucks for uppers and lowers plus alignment. Wonder if I need tie rods also? that would seem strange cause I don't drive the truck hard at all.
