Hi, I am looking for Suggestions and thoughts of using Rear Air Bags in this truck. Truck is stock ride height with New Bushings and new Blistein shocks. I am looking to keep the rear from squatting to much if I am hauling ATV's or Snowmobiles in the box or the trailer. I also tow a travel trailer from time to time and all fall withing in the weight and towing specs of the truck.
I am not looking to break the bank just something that will help out a bit.
On board Compressor recommended? Looking for a straight forward install.
Firestone ride right bags work good installed a few of them over the years on diff vehicles and raise it up and nice little bit.
They also make Monroe shocks with bags built into them that I personally used when trailer towing and they raised the back up nicely for me nice and simple to install also
Do these change the ride height when not towing? DO I need to leave a little air in them at all times? Say 10 PSI when empty and then add 50 PSI or what ever when towing?
I used the Firestone bags on my old 04 QC and they really fit the bill on getting the truck leveled towing or carrying cargo. I used manual air fittings, one for each side exiting at the license plate mounting holes. Having the two air lines allows you to level the truck better side to side if you have cargo that is heavier on one side.
Do they only allow you to lift from wherever your normal ride height is, or will they also allow you to lower the rear a little bit? I have an 04 QC as well, and was curious to see if you could actually use those to get a bit of a drop out of them without having to buy a drop kit. I have 2" rear drop shackles on mine, but being that it's a "everything is complicated 2004" I only got a 1" drop out of it since I haven't removed my overload springs from the leaf spring pack. I'm not to familiar with the helper bags and what they are capable of.
What is your goal? How do you use your truck? Usually a flip kit will solve the standard issues. Anything over 5" will need a frame notch to maintain ride comfort. Ric, show him your sliders.
My goal in the end will probably be at least a 2/4 drop. Right now I'm just planning on taking my overload spring out of the leaf spring pack to get the rear dropped the full 2 inches.
I was mainly just curious, since I'm not to familiar with them, if those rear helper bags would actually be able to drop the truck any at all or if they only lifted from whatever height the rear was already sitting at. Not something I necessarily plan on using them for, just wondering if they could be used in that way I guess.
The air bags will only lift from your static ride height. You could install the flip kit and drop 5" and then use the bags to lift it a inch or two to achieve the height you want. The bags have one style for flip kit another for standard.
OK that's what I figured just wasn't exactly sure if there were other ways of using them. Thanks to the info.
