Gas cap

Bought an '05 ram 2500 hemi at the beginning of the year. Every time i refuel
the cap is so loose i just have to pull it off.... no unscrewing! Question is can this effect the mpg or be harmful over the long run to the engine?
Great forum......

It will some as that will let the vapors escape, the annoying part is that a loose gas cap usually throws a code and turns on check engine light....

gas cap

No codes.... Not activated on Superchips either. So, you're telling me that if i'm sitting in the drive with the engine running running and take the cap off a code should pop-up. I'll try that n see what happens.
I can't believe it. This '05 has 91,500 miles on it and nothing is wrong. Not one leak or squeak.... 'cept the cap. I'll let you know what happens. larry

Believe a loose cap is a three trip code.

Sounds to me like the wrong cap. Examin the threaded area and make sure nothing is stripped. If not, get a new cap. I have a "small emission leak" code that keeps popping up on my '03 and I have a locking gas cap. I need to get a stock OEM cap. I wouldnt suggest buying one aftermarket (zone, advance, orielly...etc) for some reason they just dont seem to seal correctly. I also seem to have a little bit of a miss but no code. Not sure if the 2 are related but I guess ill find out

I bought something like three different locking caps before finding one that sealed. I don't see where an emission problem or code can cause a miss. As it is basically monitoring vacuum. There are three vacuum source on the 03, 1. brake booster. 2. vacuum hose to purge valve and 3. the internal PCv. A vacuum leak usually manifests itself as a low speed surge and /or higher than normal idle that is unstable. The fuel supply is an internal fuel pump with the fuel regulator also integrated with the pump assembly with a single fuel hose to the engine. The tank is vented through a emission control valve that is different for the various years. 03 uses a NVLD. I only mention this so that as I understand it's working it has no influence that could cause a miss. I believe with what all you have recently done to the engine and if it has a miss I would have the fuel injectors cleaned.
