Common Problems

New member here.

I just picked up an 04 Ram 1500 with 194,XXX miles. I was wondering what some of the common problems you guys have seen with this truck. I have already run into a fuel pressure regulator starting to go and the original radiator is starting to leak. Mostly trying to see if there is anything I should keep an eye out for. Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum. A few 03/04 had valve springs issues. Yours with 190000 miles on it I would think doesn't have that issue. Leaking rear pinion seal, due to the factory not using loktite on the nut. Your radiator leaking probably because it being old. Heater blend door broken, factory poor plastic design. Transmission is prone to burn up od clutches when abused. Your fuel regulator/pump are probably at their life cycle (worn out). With your mileage the front suspension probably needs to be rebuilt. And of course its not so much the mileage but how well it has been maintained will dictate the trucks condition. What do you have planned for the truck?

Welcome aboard Weary, lots of good guys here with heaps of friendly advice they willingly share. . I live in the colonies and there aint to many Dodges out here, so these blokes are invaluable to me.

I can't even comprehend what 194000 miles looks like on a truck. I have replaced spark plugs and brake pads at 70000 and just put a new EGR valve on at 74000. other than that my truck runs sweet.
I dont think I would live long enough to clock up those miles.

But as a human being, I passed that mark a while back with a leaky radiator which has since been fixed and my fuel pump remains stock standard. Though I do put in some additive now and then to keep the lines clear.

Welcome to HTC.

Where is the radiator leaking? Happened to my 04, and it was the plastic tank end separating from the aluminum part of the radiator. No repair possible and had to be replaced.

Most of the other possibilities were covered above. Enjoy your truck and beware of the mod monkey!
