cold start tick...

ok so recently i have noticed this ticking sound. i have read a lot online about how some of these trucks have the "hemi tick" its not an exhaust manifold leak due to broken bolt because i had those replaced maybe 3-4 weeks ago.. i use a premium conventional oil and a gold star Napa filter.

truck has about 110k miles on it

haven't noticed this tick in the past.. i did hear a exhaust leak but that was a little different noise and not as loud... actually the first time i noticed this loud ticking was after i had my exhaust manifold bolts replaced.. i have double checked the manifolds and theres no loose bolts on them...

is this just the "Hemi tick"??? if so how come it only showed up now?

videos....

cold start in the morning. after sitting all night.

sound from underneath the truck where i can here it most

after once around the block driving low speed and slow starts.

I have the Hemi tick on occasion, it is a light tick sound, as the engine warms up the ticking goes away. Yours sounds a lot louder than what I have on my 07' ram 5.7L.

That sounds like a little deeper tone than the tick. Try revving it a little bit. Does it go away on increase and come back on decel before idle?

once i start driving it i don't really hear it at all. if i drive to the end of my street and put in park get out and listen its gone.. as for as reving it doesn't get louder when i rev it in park or neutral. if i rev it i don't hear it until its back at idle not really before...

That really sounds like either a lifter or a lower end bearing noise. My 2003 made a noise like that ended up being 7/8 rod bearings. Hopefully it's a lifter that's bkeeding down over night that's not to detrimental just annoying.

what gets me is it goes away so fast with is a good thing i guess lol.. if it sits at idle it will be there longer but if i drive it around the block it goes away by the time I'm back..

another weird thing is i haven't heard this sound until after i fixed my exhaust manifold bolts. i had that done at a local dodge mechanic shop i personal know and trust them over a dealer or anyone else... before i had those fixed i heard a different sound from the bolts being broke... first i noticed this sound was the next morning.. maybe it was there all along and the sounds the bolts made just combined together...

i read somewhere someone put headers on a ram and used after market gasket on the manifold and for some reason they claimed it made a ticking noise until the too it apart and put mopar gaskets on...

i wonder if thats what happened..

I know my headers don't seal well with aftermarket gaskets for some reason but I'm not sure that's just kinda loud to be a tick

I know it is kinda louder than other videos i have seen on youtube... on the other hand theres a few videos just as loud as mine and people claim its the "Hemi Tick"

i guess time will tell. I've heard knocking before and it doesn't sound like knocking to me. i have but around 3k miles on it highway trips since i first heard it and haven't noticed any issues.. mpg is the same, acceleration is the same.
