the Dakota frame swap is the way to go...No f---ing around with Front Drums, no obsolete suspension parts . no rust repair (hopefully) , toss a 9.25 or a 8 3/4 rear under it and be done.....the older Dakotas can use a A body 8 3/4 rear , it's close spring pad to spring pad....and reality is a 8 1/4 will take some serious abuse when built right...not 600ftlbs worth but 500ftlbs is do-able.

Agreed, my concern is front track width. I don't want the tires sticking out.

Found a 93' Dakota 2wd extended cab short box. Will pick it up tomorrow. This will really get the project off the ground quickly (literally). Also will allow me to sell the jeep chassis /drivetrain as a complete unit. I hadn't realized there were so many folks who are purest and are doing original restorations..

Major fail! I get the trailer ready and arrive around 11am. Introduction out of the way. Ask him for the key to open it up and he tells me he gave it to me earlier this morning. Believe me I am not often mistaken for being someone else. So I politely ask what fuk is he talking about. Apparently he sold the truck to my twin and gave him the key a couple hours earlier. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE!...

I believe a more likely scenario is he's senses are pharmaceutically impaired to the point all old white men look alike to him...

The Dakota chassis swap has many advantages but the one thing I didn't like is the front track is close to 4" wider than the jeep's and would have required some wheel manipulation which I haven't always been satisfied with the final look. But using the Dakota chassis would have been a big $$$ saver... I'll keep an eye out for another dakota chassis but plan for a mustang II IFS style hot rod suspension which I can build to custom spec..

Might also look at places like Auto Weld Front Frame Rails & Rear Frame Rails | Auto Weld Chassis
or S&W for frame.

Found a 9.25 axle from a Durango. I'll build it like I did the axle for Redtruck. DTT carrier, 3:92 r&p, custom axles ford collars and Wilwood brakes. This removes the "c" clips. I've used the one in Red without issues for over a year..
