Most if not all of us are proud of our Dodge Brother rugged brand. It felt like a slap when I found out that our Dodges wouldn't be using the Cummins engine in their new 1500 package. I did a little research and found the new engine (A630) is being produced by an Italian company that keeps a low profile named VM. This company is a Fiat owned company that is 50% owned by Daimler (Chrysler/Dodge) And this may well be the reason the engine was chosen. Vertical sourcing.... yada yada.. Fortunately Daimler likes fast high performance vehicles and have provided the new 8spd trans that is plenty tough and can handle serious horsepower. So now the reality is our much beloved Dodge trucks are owned by Daimler with many components manufactured outside the US and BTW the other 50% is own by General Motors. So it turns out band loyalty is all BS... :cry2:
Reviews are saying the ecodiesel is a pooch compared to the hemi. It even has lower tow and payload than the hemi. Diesel engines are supposed to be inline configuration. I'm never going to own a v-anything diesel.
What I don't understand is that this engine caters to those that only care about fuel economy. Who in their right mind buys a truck for the fuel mileage?? It's destined to fail. Half ton diesels don't stick around long......
Yeah that little junker they are using is just that junk. Leaks like a cive too. The 1500 cannot have a cummins online though the weight alone will put the truck I to the 3/4 ton family sadly lol but it would be fun that's for sure!
The Dodge folks weren't worried about how much it could tow, they wanted a "gas engine" like driving experience. Strangely overseas the majority of the vehicles are diesels.
