Half of America: I'd kill to protect my own

Society would break down immediately following a major catastrophe such as an EMP detonation, which would destroy electronics, with 47 percent of Americans saying they would expect serious, sustained life-threatening civil unrest within two weeks, according to a new poll.

And another huge number say they would expect further deterioration after two weeks, but for many that development would be irrelevant, because they say they expect they would be dead by then.

The sobering results of the new poll from Wenzel Strategies, a public-opinion research and media consulting company, also shows a stunning number of Americans say they would be willing to kill a neighbor under such circumstances.

The poll, conducted Nov. 28-Dec. 3 with a margin of error of 3.14 percentage points, said 58 percent of Americans would be somewhat or very willing to kill someone if a member of their family was threatened with attack during an emergency.

But that would be because 50 percent expect that within two weeks of a catastrophic emergency, their home, person or family member would be physically attacked by someone desperate for food, money or commodities like gasoline.

It was that question about surviving that brought home the incredible perspective Americans hold.

Twenty-one percent said they would survive without services provided by electronic power less than a week and another 28 percent said less than two weeks. By the end of two months, three in four Americans say, they would be dead.

Probably true! Other than the "Preppers" not many families have food or water to last more than a week. Add in those that would prey on the weak, and it becomes more than likely. Few, especially in the big cities have a clue on how to survive. Gangs of thugs will dominate the streets and take house after house killing the occupants for food, water and valuables. It isn't a matter of survival of the fittest, but survival of the most ruthless.

My family knows how to survive off the land if something like that were to happen we would leave the city for sure mobs would likely be a huge issue and I tell you what I woudnt go down without a fight my father served and thousands of others gave there life for this country and I be damned if anyone is going to ruin it without a fight including the government hopefully everyone woudnt become completely retarded and stand up for what's right

From the reports we received here law and order and the law of survival saw the breakdown of social and moral standards when Katrina hit New Orleans.

Within hours of the big earthquake which struck Christchurch here. looters hit the ground running. Its the mean streak we humans have which most of us are able to control but the minority have no conscience when its time to pray on the vulnerable.

At such times its right and just to defend ones family and home with whatever force is required.

Arm yourself. Now. It was in the news last week that a record number of applications for permits to carry are hitting almost every state and is expected to continue. The Second Amendment provides us the right to have weapons that can tip the balance of lawlessness in your favor.

We are not preppers but it would be somewhat easy to stack a case of bottled water and other supplies here and there over the next few months that could help a great deal. Recording and rotating stock could be done very easily. It would be next to impossible and actually quite futile for any foreign country to even attempt to land on our shores, but our greatest threats already live among us.

Look what happens when the threat of a hurricane or blizzard hits the news and the stores are mobbed as essentials begin to sell out, just for a few days to a week of 'inconvenience'. You can never be fully prepared, but the 7 P's can make a huge difference.

It amazes me when looters will still things they never owned in the first place. I'm armed!

Very interesting topic, with some very well thought out observations. Myself, would have no problem defending myself or family members with deadly force. I'm pretty well armed but, I live in a "minority" environment part of town. And I'm disabled. So even avoiding (running away) from trouble is almost an impossibility. Luckily, I have a close friend, whose much more well armed than me. This gives me alot to think about.
